Day 5 - The Perfect Christmas Tree!

I wasn’t sure how this event was going to go at first because I knew I wanted a tree on my first day off in December, but I live alone and wasn’t sure how I was going to manage that. I remembered that there was a little trailer parked about a five minute walk from my place 2 years ago, but still…for the size of tree I was looking for…I’m not sure I was ready to totally take that on myself. The last Christmas movie I saw where the female lead tried to get a tree by herself she hit someone in the head and broke his arm. But then they fell in love so…maybe I should have?

Anyway! Point is, I called in reinforcements. I’m not going to lie, some of the hard feelings from last night lingered a little bit this morning and I had to take some time to shake them. Sometimes I just sit them but I really didn’t want to carry them today so I kind of let them slowly roll off as I went about my day. I had a slow morning, did some gaming, finally sorted out one of the final people on my lists and what I’m going to get them (now I just have to actually get everything) and slowly but surely got myself ready for the day. I have been trying more often to actually get dressed and put myself together on my days off. I had a couple weeks there that I struggled to even get out of bed let alone get out of my pajamas, so while I have the energy to do that I’m trying. I think it helps me feel a little less…"blah”…? So Navi did some bird/squirrel watching and I waited for my friend to arrive!

We got started right away on our mission and it was a good thing too because not long after that it started snowing. We went to the usual spot for the Christmas Trees and much to our dismay it was gone! But it was just relocated and luckily not too much farther from my place. I also finally read a little bit more about the family run business that sets up here and found out all the proceeds go to Out of the Cold which I’m really happy about. I’m also glad to learn it is a family run business - and my tree came from Nova Scotia which just felt right! So we picked out a tree which is tricky when it’s set up the way it is because their are already wrapped up with string so you can really see what it’s going to look like when you unravel it, but somehow we managed to find the perfect tree anyway! Seriously. It’s perfect.

We hauled it home and I was feeling very grateful to have an extra set of hands because not only did I need it, it was just one of those things I didn’t want to have to do alone, y’know? Check on your single friends this holiday season guys. Ha. But no seriously.

My other friend was going to join us later but had to finish up some teaching so while we waited we got the tree all set up and played some video games. It was nice to have a player two for a chance playing Pikmin and to just have some company. I rarely have people at my house these days so it was a nice change.

We went to meet our friend to pick up some and ended up buying the hardest bottle of sparkling to open ever. I think it took about ten minutes and all 3 of us to open it and half of spilled but whatever it was fun and felt like nice to do something special for commemorate the day. We weren’t really celebrating anything except just getting to be together and my tree I suppose. We ordered food, and bought snacks and trekked back in the snow. Oh man it was so nice and magical and I love my neighborhood in the winter time. Then we watched the much anticipated movie of the holiday season…The Princess Switch 3! I’m disappointed to be honest that Vanessa Hudgens wasn’t in it more but it was still pretty entertaining. If you followed along last year you’ll know we all went on a streak of watching Princess holiday movies and went through all the Christmas Prince and Princess Switch films with zero regret. It was nice to continue the tradition.

We ended up watching some reviews of bad movies that had us in stitches and now I can’t decide if I actually want to watch them or not and it was just nice to laugh and have company and people to chat with. Navi was happy about it too but she was annoyed that she wasn’t being pet the entire time.

I gave my tree a hat and said good night and went straight to bed because I had work at 9am the next day which means not much time to get a blog post up before going to work and I really didn’t want to wake up 6am since we were up til about midnight.

It was a nice day, I am feeling that little spark of joy and I hope I can keep it lit. I think Wednesday will need to be a nothing day where I don’t make any plans because it’s been a busy week and that’s nice but I also want to have time to recover with work about to really amp up.

I hope you’re week has been alright and it’s okay if it hasn’t. Even if it’s been really hard, have there been any little joyful moments in there? It doesn’t mean ignoring the hard stuff it just means taking them both as they are.

P.S.

I only have 20min to get ready for work and I still haven’t proof read this so please be kind. I will have to proof it when I get home!
