Day 16 - Seeing Rupi Kaur Live!

Wowowowowow day 16 I have been waiting for today!! It was an early start and work was absolutely bonkers!!! Three of us arrived at 7:30am to receive an order that never showed up. We had to quickly PIVOT and figure out how we were going to manage one of the busiest days of the entire year without our order or how we were going to get it in time. We managed it and it took all of us running around grabbing boxes from skids and running them through to our back room and somehow we all managed to get that done within an hour. We also got in trouble with mall management who I think in my moment of fierceness I told to “fight me”. Honestly I meant it. We’re trying to bring traffic to their mall so fight me for finding the only way to get product in to my store. Anyway we got it done and were having an amazing day regardless of the insanity!

After work I went home to shower off all of that running around and get ready for RUPI KAUR! If you don’t know who Rupi Kaur is, she is an Ontario born poet/writer who wrote Milk and Honey among other amazing bestsellers. Her poetry in milk and honey inspired me to start writing my own. I realized poetry doesn’t have rhyme or be rigid or be structured like we learned in school. It can be flowing and free and moving as long as it comes from your heart. I read her book I think on a recommendation of a friend when I was going through a tough break-up and I can see a lot of her influence in some of the first poems I wrote. I’ll put it here - what do you think? Can you see her influence?

Anyway so that was amazing and life altering and inspiring and a lot of her words just land so close to home. She had me choked up with her first poem and then as if the night wasn’t dramatic enough, someone proposed to their partner and arranged it with Rupi before hand and the entire crowd lost it. We were all screaming and losing our minds, It was so great. I felt such a cool sense of community in that giant hall of strangers. I was so equally happy and sad at the same time it is almost indescribable how I felt. Overwhelmed but in the best way possible.

After the concert we walked through the Fairmont Royal York Hotel that had an entire Gingerbread Lane and incredible holiday decorations - I had no idea! It was so cool to see the entire place transformed into this whole other world almost! Can you imagine staying there? Then we headed home and my Mom’s friend brought us each a little souvenir from London - chocolate shoes! I can’t wait to eat them!

And my night ended blissfully with a relaxing hot bath, some writing and feeling so whole and full of joy! Rupi’s words are so empowering and I am so determined to do something with my poetry…I just don’t know what yet.

Until tomorrow sweet friends!
