In horror films, sometimes,
A character gets possessed.
And during a fit, creatures or insects might crawl out of their mouth.
It creeps up from deep inside and they convulse with it
As it crawls up
                              Up
                                             Up.
Until it pushes itself through their throat
And it releases itself out their mouth.

That’s sometimes what anxiety feels like to me.
It’s there deep down.
Sometimes I’m strong enough to keep it down.
But sometimes I’m scared,
Because I can feel it creeping up,
                                                                           Up,
                                                                                          Up.
A pushing against my chest.
And on the days where I feel weak
It releases itself in a heavy sob
And steals my breath,
And I have lost control of my own body.
It possesses me and I don’t know how to send it away.
