Day 5 - Going to See the Nutcracker…with My Cat

Today was my day off so as always, I tried to sleep in…but usually I feel like I’m forcing it. I often feel really sluggish most of the day…maybe that’s becausse I made myself get up later in the day? I don’t know but I had a slow start today. I had a bit of a headache so most of my morning was waiting that out. I had some tea and watched Zoella Vlogmas. I haven’t found that I watch many of her videos anymore but Vlogmas is something I still enjoy watching. It brings me joy and reminds me of those warm fuzzy feelings of being around people I love and care about. So that kept me going. I finally got up and tidied a bit and then did some gaming. My friend who lives around the corner surprised me with a text saying she was in front of my house. I went out in my Christmas onesie and we chatted a bit from afar. It was nice to see her face. I’ve only seen it virtually for…has it been months? Realy human face make a big difference!

After that I put actual pants on (well…yoga pants) and went for a virtual walk with my Mom. It was chilly but I was bundled and cozy and didn’t mind and it felt good to get out and get fresh air. I think I need to keep up with that on my days off.

After that, I had a special evening planned so it was time to start the evening prep. I took a nice warm bubble bath. I used this “Figs and Honey” bubble bar because it felt closest to Sugar Plums and I was getting ready to watch The Nutcracker virtually with some friends! I did a full on pamper sesh with a face mask and I even played the soundtrack in the background. I tried to theme my look to that of the Sugar Plum Fairy and I feel like I did okay? It was fun to get dressed up and play with make-up and actually wear lipstick for once (even though it didn’t last long).

I decided to really make a night of it and ordered some fresh Mozarella (yes I ordered Scaddabush) to have with my champagne while we watched. We had some technical difficulties but we finally made it and got it working. It was nice to still experience something magical like that from home. This particular group of friends and I used to dance together so this was always kind of a fun thing we’d try to do together every now and again…but the last time we did it all together was 2011 I think (check out the pic of my baby face!)

I ended the evening full of champagne and good food and feeling really grateful, and inspired and also very aware of how much we need the arts and need to diversify them and be more inclusive. It was good to have those reminders.

It was definitely a full day but Navi and I are all partied out now and ready for more to come…after a little rest!

Is there a show or place you usually go this time of year that makes you feel really festive and excited for your holiday traditions? Let me know in the comments!
