Day 13 - Christmas Nails and Spontaneous Shopping Trips

If you’re like me and you need to book appointments, you like to book them first thing in the morning so that you can get them out of the way, otherwise you will be anxious or even just waiting for that event all day. It’s like the reel you may have seen on tik tok or Instagram where one friend says “Do you want to hang out today?” and the person responds with “Oh I can’t have an appointment at 4pm”. They will be spending the entire day preparing for 4pm so they can’t fill it with anything else. Even if it’s not an appointment that makes me specifically anxious, I spend all day time checking - I can’t relax because I want to make sure I don’t miss it. So this entire sidebar was really just my way of saying I booked my nail appointment for the morning so I could start my day with it and then relax after.

It was a beautiful, chilly but sunny day! I was bundled and warm and had my tea with me. This nail place is actually a little farther but I like it because it forces me to get at least an hour of exercise walking there and back, and often while I’m out and about I’ll stop for groceries on my way.

I always go to the same person to do my nails - she’s so good at it and I’ve been going to her since before COVID - obviously with a long pause in between and I was relieved to know she was still there. I showed up with a little holiday gift only for her to show up with a Starbucks latte for me! It was such a sweet moment and she took a little video of us - it was a really lovely moment.

She did some amazing work as usual and I’m so in love with my Christmas nails!! It’s like a nice little constant reminder! I also really find it helpful to have nails done because one of my anxious habits is nail biting - I’ve been self conscious about it since I was a kid. My parents even tried that gross tasting nail polish to try to help me but I just stopped wearing it. Anyway - these nails stop me from doing that because they are rock hard and also so pretty that I see them and I’m like oh yeah don’t ruin them!

Okay so anywho I had the rest of the day to relax and nap and do the usual Brenna day-off necessities. Navi was especially loving today for whatever reason. Maybe it’s because I’m spending more time in the living room than in my bedroom now?

At the last minute I had the urge to go out and do some shopping - ever since I was little it was kind of a tradition to pick out a “Christmas outfit”. I remember as a kid we would look at the “fancy” dresses at The Bay. I guess I kept that tradition up a bit on my own - I think it started because we used to go to church but now as an adult who isn’t really religious I think I just do it to make the day feel a bit more special. Our first year of COVID Christmas I embraced the “cozy Christmas” vibes and wore yoga pants and I have vowed to be comfortable for Christmas from then on! But I got a little distracted on my shopping trip and found things perfect for this blog! All the joy!! I know working retail holiday hours can be really frustrating when you’re the one who has to work them, but I was very thankful for them tonight!

There is possibly going to be a storm the next couple days so I’ve decided to camp out at my parents place but don’t worry I wouldn’t let those Pusateri’s pasta dishes go to waste! Tonight’s fine dining was Rigatoni Bolognese with these President’s Choice Arancini that I found! It was * chef’s kiss * delicious. Not quite as heavenly as that mac and cheese but still pretty amazing.

Anyway winding down for bed I played a little….you’re thinking I’m going to say Dreamlight Valley aren’t you? Well your wrong! I played Cozy Grove this time! Gotta keep you all on your toes!

Thus concluded a pretty joyous day off as I head into one of my busiest weeks!

Wish me luck!
